Crystals & Minerals that can be used for Natural Healing

Crystals and minerals have been used for centuries as a way of healing the body, mind and spirit. All matter on this earth, including ourselves, is vibrating energy, and everything has it's own vibrational frequency. The vibrations set up electro magnetic fields, and can influence us and other things around them. Our auras, which is our own surrounding vibrating energy, also have an electro magnetic field, as do crystals and minerals, and it is believed that certain crystals and minerals can have an effect on our lives and well-being because of the vibrations omitted from them that will influence our aura. Our auras are also sometimes known as the etheric body, or Chakras.

The word Chakra means 'wheel', and they are wheels of energy that spin around each and everyone of us. There are hundreds of concentrated energy centres in the body, but the main seven are called the Chakras, and they are vital to our well-being. The seven Chakras each spin at their own frequencies, the lowest at the base vibrates the slowest, while the highest at the crown vibrates the fastest, drawing energy from the Universal energy field. The Chakras control mind, body and soul, as emotional, mental, physical and spiritual energy is focused through the Chakra points to form a single holistic system. Each Chakra is associated with a different colour and gemstone. The seven Chakras are:

The crystals mentioned above are commonly linked to the Chakras, but others can be used instead of them. Malachite can be substituted for aventurine, or turquoise could be used instead of aquamarine. What matters the most is to use the stones that you feel most comfortable with, follow your instincts and use crystals that feel right for you.

People buy, or aquire crystals for many reasons, sometimes a recommendation from a friend or expert, sometimes they buy because they have a specific requirement, or sometimes they just feel drawn to certain crystals. There is no right or wrong way to choose your crystals, but the most ideal way would be to trust your instinct, and go for the stones that attract you the most. If you find yourself wanting to go for a particular crystal, it is most likely your sub conscious guiding you, so it is important to listen to it.

Crystals and minerals can be worn as jewelry, or natural or tumblestone forms can be carried around in your pocket or placed on the Chakra points as mentioned above. Go with whatever method suits you best.

Cleansing your crystals immediately after recieving them is recommended, as the crystal can absorb energy from others that have handled them, and from the surroundings they've been in. Cleansing means to get rid of this surplus energy so that you have a blank canvas to work with, and it should be done regularly, or when you feel it is needed. Trust your instincts, there is no right or wrong time or way to cleanse your crystals.

The most common way to cleanse your crystals and minerals is in sea water, but if that is not possible you can put them in a glass of mineral water with added salt. Sea salt is ideal and mineral water contains less impurities than tap water. Leave them for 24 hours, or until you feel they have been cleansed. You can also cleanse them by holding them under running water, holding them under the hot and cold tap alternatively for 5 minutes each. Outside methods include leaving your crystals and minerals in sunlight or moonlight for 24 hours, or leaving them outside in the rain. Some crystals don't react to sun or water though so be sure to check before you try to cleanse them.

Another way of cleansing is to pass the crystal through the smoke of a candle or incense stick. This method is called smudging and is quite popular.

You can also cleanse your crystals and minerals by burying them in the earth, for a cycle of the sun and the moon, or for however long you feel is needed. Your back garden or secluded area will do fine for the job.
